Thank you!

Hello OAHI Education Conference delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and educators:

Thank you all for helping to make, by all accounts, a very successful 2019 conference. As OAHI’s registrar Nicole Proietti recently informed me she’s received nothing but praise from all present, no negative comments, nor any “constructive criticism.” The credit is due to the great team effort the Education Conference Committee puts forth, every year since we started five years ago. I think we’re getting good at this!

We really need to give credit to the high calibre educators we’ve been able to attract; some are new to us and would like to come back, others are more familiar and always return with new takes on common topics. Things are always changing in the housing business and we need to be up-to-date. That’s our commitment: offer the best!

The work tool bag swag item received a lot of praise. Obviously, like me, some guys needed a new bag: Here’s a photo of mine all packed and ready to inspect; everything fits. Oh and whoever lost that flashlight and belt holster contact me soon or it’s in the tool bag too!

The Ambassador Hotel proved to be a good choice for 2019; the exhibition and session rooms were all perfect and the food quite good. I liked both the staff and hotel and we will consider it when we return east in a few years.

We’ve made a commitment to moving around the province to better serve the membership. We’ll be looking at spots in the GTA including some closer to Barrie and our old fave in Burlington.

Congratulations to the new OAHI board and new President John Hansen. As the auditor reported we’re in good financial shape, and I am looking forward to more steady, logical growth and new member services under John’s leadership.

That’s about it: Canada’s Premier Home Inspection Education Conference is over for another year. Thanks to you all for making it a success.

2018 OAHI Education Conference

We had a blast at the 2018 OAHI Education Conference.

Thanks to the close to 200 participants: delegates, companions, exhibitors, sponsors, mentors, band members, OAHI board members and the Education Conference Committee. OAHI proved to be so educational and welcoming a few people have joined the association since March 3. Welcome to OAHI: We wish you all the best for your career.

The HOOT Exhibitors Reception with its great buffet and music from J.J. and the Defects officially kicked off the conference on a high note. Home inspectors really know how to rock and it's always great playing with you guys: J.J. James Buren, Mark Diplock, Brian Warchol. and Colleen McKim.

Terry Carson led the offsite inspections on March 2 at a heritage home and a new home.

Thank you Terry for always running a great program.

Thank you to the educators who delivered high-calibre sessions:

Guillaume Bailly, Terry Carson, David Aird, Mark M. Skorah and Julie Lamb, Siloni Waraich, Bryan Stott, Bob Thorburn and Nicole Kennedy of Tarion our Silver Sponsor, Jacob Kachuba, Dara Bowser, John Edgar, Greg McIntosh, Phil Thompkins, Alden Gibson, Andrew Dixon, John Hansen, Alrek Meipoom, Murray Parish.

Thank you to all of our sponsors: BFL, Carson Dunlop/Horizon, HUB, Shell, All Risks, OREA, Tarion and Fanshawe College. We appreciate your support and an ongoing relationship with OAHI. Thank you to all of our exhibitors. Your presence is one of the keys to the success of the conference.

Thank you to Vivien White and her great staff at the Four Points by Sheraton. You were always polite, professional and helpful. Sarah and Karen at London Tourism were also very helpful.

To the delegates who came from around the corner and across the province: thank you attending and making the conference memorable. It was nice meeting you. We do this conference for you.

We look forward to seeing you in 2019.

Andrew Dixon, RHI

The Exhibitors' Reception was on March 2. Sponsored by HUB, OREA, OAHI and Tarion, the Exhibitors Reception was a HOOT. It had a buffet and cash bar.

Connect with the vendors who can help make you a better home inspector at the Exhibitors’ Marketplace. Explore new products and services from radon testing, to report writing, cameras and IAQ and more. We have new exhibitors this year.

You can talk with company representatives, see product demonstrations and enter contests to win prizes. Exploring the Exhibitors’ Marketplace also provides networking opportunities.

Terry Carson RHI will host the Friday morning (March 2) offsite inspection at the Gatehouse of the Elsie Perrin Williams Estate and an afternoon tour of a new home net-zero home builder Doug Tarry  Custom Homes.

There’ll be transportation and a box lunch provided with an open discussion of the sites back at the hotel.

You must register for this inspection.

We will provide a boxed lunch. If you have dietary concerns e.g. gluten-free, vegetarian, please contact OAHI as soon as possible: publicrelations@oahi.com.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a hardhat and steel-toed boots.

The Mentorship Café, set up in the Exhibitors’ Hall throughout the weekend is your opportunity to connect with experienced home inspectors one-on-one. New or not sometimes you just have some questions about the industry and need some support.

“Fifty years of experience at the table at any time. All my questions were answered, and I had many (about tools, courses, business advice, information sources, etc.)," says Hans de Wilde a 2017 conference delegate.

The Mentorship Café at the 2018 OAHI Education Conference lets you connect with experienced home inspectors one-on-one.

Three tables will be set up in the exhibitors’ hall. When you see a mentor there, just say hello. Some delegates even arrive with a list of questions, which is very helpful. Take your inspection photos: There will be prizes.
