THE HOME OF THE OAHI EDUCATION PROGRAMS COMMITTEE

The Education Programs Committee (EPC) is pleased to announce that we have had a good response to our education survey. After two email requests we received close to 100 responses, we expect a few more may trickle in.

It appears OAHI members are looking for engagement and stimulation in these restrictive times.

If you answered the survey, you’ll know it asked basic questions about education needs in a time when a live conference is not possible. Thanks to all who participated, you gave us some great information.

With no conference and limited meeting group activities, online home inspection specific education is OAHI’s answer. The EPC has been mandated to develop and distribute a series of virtual education sessions to meet those needs.

Based on the survey results and some intuition of our own (we need CEUs too!) we’re starting with a Virtual Mentorship Café on Feb. 22, 2021 followed by some hour-long classes on some of the common themes like water penetration and mould.

The classes will vary from general to advanced as we want to reach all members, and we’ll be using trusted and knowledgeable instructors whom you’ll recognize from past conferences. We’ll be using Zoom for the sessions; in all announcements and on the members side of the oahi.com there’ll be registration links for all sessions.

Information will be sent directly from OAHI so make sure you have consented to receive our emails.

TARION Inspections At The Virtual Mentorship Café

OAHI’s Education Programs Committee (EPC) is presenting its next Virtual Mentorship Café (VMCafe) on Monday June 21 at 7 p.m. Hosted by RHI Tom Rando, the series continues with two topics, “TARION Inspections” and My Worse Client Experience” and features RHIs Bob Brander and James Buren. Both James and Bob are very familiar with TARION inspections, having done many over the years, and like us all, they have had bad client experiences. Please note the registration link has been updated. If you've already registered using the old link you will need to re-register using the updated link in an email sent on June 3.

Education on all aspects of the inspection process is key to the OAHI experience. Bob explains, “education is key to doing the TARION program. You need to go through formal education, which we will discuss, and where to get some of it.”

James points out that “we all learn when sharing stories about our worst inspection experiences, what not to do, what to do if, and, unfortunately, do little as often there’s not much you can do.”

The VMCafe, like so much of OAHI is run by volunteers. Volunteering is good for the soul and a great way to learn and expand your possibilities. The Education Programs Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all VMCafe volunteers like Bob and James (and Trevor Welby-Solomon, Terry Carson, Alden Gibson, George Eastwood, and Murray Parish, plus the board and committee members) for sharing their time and knowledge with all home inspectors.

The VMCafe is a place for comments and discussion, so if you have comments or questions about which services are viable, bring them on June 21 and comment or ask away,

All one-hour VMCafe sessions are worth one (1) Continuing Education Unit (CEU).

The June 21 VMCafe will require preregistration, so check your email to register now and ensure a space. Alternatively, you can contact the office at oahi@oahi.com or by phone at 416-256-0960. Watch the OAHI media platforms for more information.

“Tool Kits and Training” At The Virtual Mentorship Café

The OAHI’s Education Programs Committee (EPC) is presenting its next Virtual Mentorship Café (VMCafe) on Monday May 17 at 7 p.m. Hosted by RHI Tom Rando, the series continues with “Tools Kits and Training” featuring RHIs Trevor Welby-Solomon and Alrek Meipoom.

Both Alrek and Trevor are very familiar with training and tool kits, having trained home inspectors online, in classroom and on-site, plus both have conducted too-many-to-count home inspections as sole proprietors or employees of larger firms.

Participation in “Tool Kits and Training” at the VMCafe May 17 earns you one Continuing Education Unit (CEU). The session requires registration so check out the May “OAHI Inspection Connection” newsletters, a recent e-blast for the link or contact the OAHI office (oahi@oahi.com) and reserve your space.

The VM Café is all about learning so bring your comments and your questions and learn about “Tool Kits and Training.”

The last Virtual Mentorship Cafe "Ancillary Services I Have Known" at April’s Virtual Mentorship Cafe (VMCafe) with RHIs Alden Gibson and Andrew Dixon was by all accounts a success receiving positive feedback during the session and some particular mention after.

Jim Samson, a student member emailed, “I just wanted to say thanks so much for putting together such a great presentation for last night’s mentorship cafe. Really, really appreciated it!”

Ancillary Services at the Virtual Mentorship Cafe

The OAHI Education Programs Committee (EPC) is pleased to introduce the next Virtual Mentorship Café on Monday April 19, 2021 at 7 p.m.

The series continues with “Ancillary Services I Have Known” featuring RHIs Alden Gibson and Andrew Dixon. Both RHIs offer ancillary services to their clients and have been doing so for quite a while. Ancillary services are a proven way to help your clients and generate some additional revenue. They can be offered as single item inspections or bundled into a home inspection package.

Participation in “Ancillary Services I Have Known” at the VMCafe April 19 earns you one CEU.

The session requires preregistration so contact the OAHI office at oahi@oahi.com to confirm your space or check the newsletter “OAHI Inspection Connection. Bring your comments and your questions and learn about ancillary services.
